Akhaldaba Private House residential project designed by MUA Architecture & Placemaking in Akhaldaba, Georgia creates a strong connection between architecture and landscape by dividing the program into three blocks that follow the site’s challenging terrain. The design merges the client’s requirements with the site’s natural features, ensuring functional efficiency and environmental harmony. Minimal changes to the land preserve the terrain’s natural curves, while the arrangement of blocks forms semi-open spaces linked to the outdoors. A terrace and pool are placed on the roof of the common area, accessible from both the second floor and an external yard staircase. The rough-textured concrete facade doubles as a load-bearing structure, with green aluminum-framed openings and climbing plants reinforcing the building’s integration with the landscape, and the northwest entry sequence includes access through a greenhouse leading into the main living spaces.

The project is located in the village of Akhaldaba, Georgia. The building is a two-story single-family residence with a pool. After analyzing the landscape and the site, the architects aimed to create architecture that blends harmoniously with its environment. The design incorporates both the client’s requirements and a careful functional distribution of spaces to achieve a balance between purpose and context.

Given the challenging terrain, the functions were organized into three distinct programmatic blocks. The orientation and connections of these blocks were determined by both their functional relationships and their integration with the landscape. The shifting alignment of the blocks produces semi-open spaces that connect to the surrounding environment. The building consists of three interconnected blocks joined by internal staircases, forming a cohesive whole.

Because the level differences follow the natural curves of the landscape, alterations to the terrain are minimal. The architecture of the building is organic and designed to blend into its surroundings over time, while interior spaces offer views toward the road and the ravine.

The pedestrian entrance to the house is located on the northwest side, with a few steps leading to the main entrance that also incorporates a greenhouse. This area provides access to the daytime zone, which extends to the bedrooms distributed over two floors. The roof of the common area includes a terrace and pool, both accessible from the second floor of the bedroom zone and via an external staircase from the yard. The rough-textured concrete facade along the outer perimeter serves as a load-bearing structure. The windows and doors are framed in green aluminum. Climbing plants on the building’s walls further enhance the structure’s integration with the landscape.
